CARS IN THE PARK-SWARTKOPS RACEWAY IN PRETORIA 5 AUGUST 2007

As always, the Cars in the Park at the Swartkops Raceway was a great day for viewing the solid old cars of yester year. The event was well organised by the POMC and it attracted a large number of participants and the public. This year the traffic back up to the entrance to the event was better arranged and almost insignificant.
It was freezing cold early on. However, the weather soon changed and because there are no trees, we warmed up in the morning sun. The stalwarts who turned up for the event from our Club were Jorrie and Amanda, Marius (great seeing him again), John Webb, Rusty and Dawn, Terence Redmond, Craig and Marj, Gary Dodds, Albert, Mark Richardson, Tommy and Dave Smith and John Bowes.

Last, but not least, was Sara Harper, who definitely wowed the Club members and the public with the cutest little trailer, which she towed to the event behind her open-topped Minor. She has even had it sprayed to match the colour of her car. The trailer apparently came down from 'Zim' yars back containing the family luggage.

This type of event is obviously not one the ladies enjoy. As a result, we only had a few of them to add some sparkle to the group. To all you ladies who did not attend, you were surely missed.
There were a number of special vehicles on show, from Pretoria's smallest fire engine to a replica of 'big foot'. It is actually quite heart warming to see all the time, money, love and attention that has been put into so many different oldies
and the fantastic results which have been achieved. This is especially so for the restorers, who really go to the extreme to keep the vehicles as original as possible and in perfect condition.
Just a small footnote to say that we would really like more members to attend our outings. Although we had 13 Morris' there and we were about the 3rd biggest group to attend, we can definitely do with a better showing. The Pretoria Old Motor Club can definitely be commended for the event.
