WEEKEND AWAY AT THE EMERALD CASINO RESORT- 5 TO 7 OCTOBER 2007

At least once a year, the Club arranges a weekend away for the members. This is always a most enjoyable outing and those who didn't make it this year missed out on what turned out to be a preview of the venue to be used for next year's National Rally. The Committee took the opportunity to see at first hand what could be expected from the Casino's management, experience the accommodation and fine tune the events programme.

The members travelled down on the Friday afternoon at their own pace and settled into the bungalows. A braai was organised for the Fridayevening and as usual, they enjoyed themselves. Everyone looked after them selves for breakfast the next morning and thereafter, a meeting washeld to discuss the various aspects of holding the Rally.

John Lawton joined the group, which included Albert and Lorna van Heerden, John Webb, Craig and Marj Stacey, Tommy and Sharon Smith with their boys Ashley and Adrian, Dave Smith, Terence and Noeleen Redmond, Keith,Merle, Douglas and Clayton Lendrum, and Lawson Flint.

Rusty and Dawn Clover, Glenys Lesser and Audrey, Fanie and Madeleine Meintjes and their kids and Clive Surtees joined the group later in the day.Craig Stacey wasn't feeling too well and he returned to Johannesburg. We hope you are feeling better under the circumstances.

Because of the World Cup rugby, most people watched the game in the afternoon in their bungalows. Later on, we all met at a restaurant in the Casino area and had a huge carvery type dinner. Some of the plates!!!!!!!!!!! We all enjoyed the meal and then the rain came down in buckets. Some of the folk ventured into the Casino, but not for long, as the next rugby match was due to start at 21h00.

According to Mike del Frate, the Year End Function is going to be something similar, so don't eat on the day, or else you will have to be carried out of the restaurant.

The next morning we all met for a lovely breakfast. Our thanks go to all of the industrious chefs and bottle washers. They provided us with another huge meal and their efforts were greatly appreciated. After cleaning up and loading the cars, we all headed off back to our homes, satisfied that we had spent another pleasant weekend with our friends. You should really make the effort to attend these outings. Everyone has a good time and there is always a lot of fun and banter.
