| THE STUDEBAKER CAR CLUB OF SA MOTOR SHOW - JAN SMUTS HOUSE 28 OCTOBER 2007 TheStudebaker Car Club invited us to enjoy their special show day at thepristine and tranquil site of the Jan Smuts Museum in Irene near toPretoria. This is an ideal setting for a motor car show. The venue isalmost totally covered by huge trees, giving plenty of shade. It has agrand old house with original furnishings of the era. One can wanderthrough the house and there is also a well run restaurant supplyingexcellent value-for-money breakfasts and meals. Most of the Morrisattendees took advantage of something I really enjoy having, which is agreat breakfast with equally great Morris family members and friends. The Studebaker Club went the extra mile to make everyone welcome, with 60's/70's music in the background (giving my age away), but our era did have thebest music ever. However, the Dee Jay was no competition for our ownTerence Redmond. TheStudebaker Club really had a good turn out, with a numerous models ondisplay, including some ‘bakkies’. The Club also frowns on the modified"Studs" and these had to stand to one side. They were asked not toparticipate in the sound/Mexican wave where each Studebaker revved inturn (they do have a great beat) which sent cold shivers down thespine. A demonstration wasalso given by the Benoni Heritage Club (which was well represented andincluded our own Charles Gardiner in his open top Austin Healey Sprite)of a crank start of a 3 litre, 4 cylinder 1927 model T Ford. You reallyneed your early morning oats to tackle this task. Forthose of us who attended, it was a great relaxing day amongst other oldvehicle enthusiasts. The judges definitely took a great interest inJohn Webb, Neville Josman, Gary Dodds and Albert van Heerden's Morris'.Other club members who attended were Laura and Tracey Josman, Jorrieand Amanda Jordaan, Neil and Tamara Bulley, Dawn and Rusty Clover andas mentioned earlier, Charles Gardiner. ThePretoria Old Motor Club was also well represented and it was greathaving a chat over a beer with Frans du Toit, chairman of the Club.Eric Milner (chairman of the Piston Ring Club) was also seen casting acritical eye over the cars.
